At last year’s WSOP Brian Hastings took big risks to win hundreds of dollars on bracelet bets which he would never take again.

In the ‘low to mid six figures’- that is where Hastings had bets on winning a bracelet during the World Series of Poker.

Eventually he racked up over $874,000 in winnings by the end of summer as he cashed seven times and won two bracelets.

The bracelet bets are not included in these counts.

Those best could have cost him big as he comments looking back on his bets.

‘I think I played quite well last summer but the amount of risk I was taking on, things still could have really easily gone badly.’

‘At the time I just had so much raw confidence I didn’t think it was going to happen.’

‘But I think it was a bit overly risky so I wouldn’t do it again.’

Hastings is in a different world after already winning two cashes at this year’s 2016 WSOP.

About his success last year he says the following:

‘It was a little bit weird actually. I think it just gave me too much confidence. I kind of thought that any idea I had was great. I got a little too reckless with decision-making and trusting my instincts too much’.

The snap-move to Philadelphia is another very odd decision that’s on top of his list.

‘There were some merits to moving there but a lot of my reasons weren’t very well thought out’.

‘Also just the way I was investing and spending’.

‘I kind of thought after the summer I didn’t have to worry about money anymore’.

Motivation- Mistakes have to be made up for

After last year’s WSOP his poker work ethic elapsed as a result of becoming over-confident. Hasting says:

‘I kind of got to a point where I got complacement with my game. I wasn’t playing enough and was focused on other stuff.’

‘But I think that part has turned around. I think I realized how much hard work it takes to stay on top of your game now.’

‘Over the last few months I’ve been focusing pretty hard on getting my game back where it needs to be.’

‘So that part’s coming back but I’m still regretting some of the decision I was making at the time’.

Hasting is looking in other places for motivation this year as no bracelet bets are pushing him.

‘I still feel like there’s plenty of motivation. It’s just coming from a different place.’

‘Last summer I felt the need to have so much riding on it but right now I just want to do well to try and make up for some of the mistakes I was making and get back to where I want to be’.
