When Jonas “ΙIJaYJaYII” Lauck woke up yesterday morning, the online poker player was $1,517,541 richer.
In the $5,000 buy-in PokerStars WCOOP Main Event, the German poker pro topped a field of 2,901 internet players. On Wednesday, the World Champions of Online Poker 15th title came in the hands of the German online poker player.
In 2002 the event ran for the first time and ever since Tyson “POTTERPOKER” Marks won the Main Event in 2010 for $2,278,097, Lauck’s win was the largest. In 2014, the legend Fedor “CrownUpGuy” Holz took home around $1,300,000 as well did Kristof “Coenaldinho” Coenen last year.
This year’s WCOOP poker series totalled a $73 million in prize pool money after concluding 82 online events. Lauck joins the list which already has names on it as J.C. Tran and Holz. Before winning the title, Lauck eliminated “0409479” in the Main Event that lasted three days.
Heads Up Shows Big Hands
The eventual runner-up ran into a bit of cooler, with Lauck and ‘0409479’ heads-up. Both players hold up monster heads-up hands with Lauck’s A♠K♣ against A♥Q♣. ‘0409479’ was left in dire need of a suck-out after all the money got in pre-flop.
“But the flop ran out K♦5♦2♣, putting the chip leader just two cards away from the biggest win of his poker career. The board finished off with 7♥ and 8♦, wrapping up the German’s impressive, life-changing victory. Don’t feel too bad, the runner-up also received a nice chunk of change ($1,101,278). In 3rd place, ‘R_Scientist’, another British player, earned $799,196.”
Online and Live tournament earnings
Since 2011 the German online poker player won several big bucks in online and live tournaments.
In live event wins, he has a record of more than $1.3 million. In 2012 he won $260,765 in a Deep Stack event at Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace.
He also earned another $174,286 at this year’s WSOP Main Event becoming 37th.
In 2014 he even came close to winning a World Series bracelet but had to satisfy for $130,955 when he finished 2nd in a $1,500 no-limit hold’em event.
