The US PartyPoker network is kicking off an eight-day tournament from May 10 through May 17, as global poker traffic continues to surge.

PartyPoker Launches Eight-Day $338,000 GTD Tournament

On Sunday, May 10, the PartyPoker US Network Online Series gets underway, with Borgata Poker and BetMGM Poker opening their virtual card rooms in New Jersey. The series will stretch for eight days from May 10 through May 17 and feature 21 events with a number of affordable buy-ins.

To participate, players can pay anything between $5 and $400 and play for a share of the $338,000 prize pool. One of the biggest draws of the online event will be the $400 buy-in, $100K GTD Main Event, which will kick off at 5 pm ET on Sunday, May 17.

Players who aren’t interested in the Main Event will still have plenty of options to pick from, not least the $55 buy-in, $20K GTD Low Main Event which will take place on the last day of the tournament. Another big date on the calendar is the $215 buy-in event #1: Phased $100K GTD, as per the official schedule of the tournament.

The number of players is not exactly known, but judging from last month’s 2020 Borgata Spring Poker Open Online Series and the $100K GTD Main Event, some 346 entrants tried their luck, pushing the total pool to $126,290.

With PartyPoker trying its hand to draw interest and poker traffic supposedly having doubled over April, the main event’s $100K GTD should be exceeded by a fair stretch on May 17. The event is just a blip on the radar, but one that will bring us coveted poker action in the next seven days.

PartyPoker Continue to Deliver Quality Product with Defection Party

With shelter-in-place orders still on, interest in poker has grown significantly. New Jersey reported an increase of 90.9% year-over-year, according to the Garden State regulator. Meanwhile, PartyPoker has set up the Defection Party promo, which kicked off earlier this week and offers a total of $2 million in cash prizes you can win through June 4.

Players who simply login into their accounts will receive a ticket to the $500 Hyper-Turbo freeroll or a bonus, the official announcement said. Furthermore, players are offered 20% more in cashback on pre-selected day.

There are daily challenges for the MTT entries and winners can play their way through the $5,000 guaranteed Hyper-Turbo tournament which starts at 8:00 pm CEST everyday during the promotional period.

Partypoker hasn’t reported how much of a traffic spike the site has seen, but others have. 888Poker reported a 60% increase in the company’s traffic for the United States, various media outlets said, citing 888 Holdings, the parent company.

According to National League of Poker, the surge in March players was anything between 30% and 50% and in March alone, revenues from online poker went up 131%, an unprecedented growth.

While doubts persist as to whether the temporary spike in poker popularity will hold, there is a good chance we could see more online poker after the lockdown. Poker seems to be doing well so far, although the World Series of Poker, the world’s largest event, took a hit and had to postpone its regular circuit in July.
