In this day’s poker 3-bet we find Tom Dwan sighting in Montenegro, a rising tide for women in eSports and Brandon Shack-Harris finds his inner bear.

Rise of Female Players

iQ.intel.co.uk published a great piece on the rise of female players in eSports, just now that the 2016 WSOP Ladies Championship is about to begin.

Between poker and women in eSports there are lot of parallels, as poker pro Xuan Lia tweeted.

As two-time bracelet winner Kristen Bicknell confirmed, ‘playing like a girl’ is still a thing due to the fact that both industries are still very male-heavy and so they still struggle with sexual harassment and perpetual sexism.

There’s just a disparty in volume between male and female players in poker but not in skill as we’ve seen numerous times from Liv Boeree, Maria Ho and Vanessa Selbst in back-to-back bracelets in open events this week.

The only way to create a better environment is by changing that disparity:

‘If someone is interested, shows up at an event, sees nobody that looks like them and doesn’t feel welcomed by those who are there, they’re usually going to find something else to do,” said Lee Machen, director of developer relations at Intel.’

‘Women-only tournaments can create supportive environments, giving pros much needed visibility and showcasing their dedication to the competition.’

‘When asked to recall the moment they became serious about competing, many professional women gamers point to playing with other girls in esports. (Matilde “Mattye”) Wiik joined her first all-women team in 2013. She said connecting with other women players helped her see how girls could compete and win.’

‘That really inspired me to keep playing, to keep trying to get better and go to more tournaments,’ Wiik said’

The Grind of the Day: The Polar Bear Grind

We were wrong by thinking that Brandon Shack-Harris’s choice of clothing was a reflection of the below-zero temperatures at the Rio this week:

Whatever the reason (concern for climate change or a prop bet?) it worked, but we’re still not sure why he was wearing the polar bear garb.

All the way to the second place in the $1,500 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo event last night he sported the PB hoodie, after winning almost $900k a week ago in the $10k PLO Championship.

Montenegro: Ivey and Dwan spotted?

Where is Phil Ivey? This has of course been the lingering question this summer.

Now that he’s nowhere to be seen at any poker’s marquee event, the fans start to wonder as it was only a couple of years ago that he was seen multi-tabling all the time and winning numerous bracelet bets.

He might pop in for an event or two, that’s what poker fans all over the world were still thinking on the whereabouts of Tom Dwan as well.

If we have to believe grinder Patrick Leonard on the 2+2 forum, Ivey and Dwan are both busy making bank at a Montenegrian casino.

Re: Tom Dwan-the missing man currently in montenegro at casino that Yong owns. Ivey et al there too

Given the Casino Splendido in Montenegro was used as decor for the epic showdown with LeChiffre in James Bond’s Casino Royale, it would be an awesome ‘troll’.
