On Monday, poker pro Eli Elezra, came close to win his first major tournament since the 2015 WSOP. Elezra lost the heads-up battle against Sean Yu and finished the circuit in second place.
At the beginning of the heads-up play, the Israeli had a small lead, but was unable to hold onto it, with a circuit ring up for grabs in the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event. Yu, the now two-time Circuit winner, left the event with $170, 286, whereas the runner-up received the consolation prize of $105,281.
It has been more than a year since Elezra was the last man standing in a tournament, but recently the player has had quite some success in major events. The poker pro cashed 10 times at the 2016 WSOP, including a final table appearance.
During his career as a poker pro, Elezra has earn over $3 million in live tournaments. Twelve years ago, the poker pro earned his biggest score, over $1 million at a WPT event. After that, Elezra hasn’t topped the $200,000 mark in a tournament.
The Winner: Sean Yu
The winner, Sean Yu, has less name recognition than Elezra, but it doesn’t mean he is less of a player. Whereas Elezra is a high stakes cash player, Yu focus more on the lower stakes tournaments.
In his career, Yu has earned around $1 million in live tournaments, which is very impressive since the tournaments he competes in have low buy-ins.
ESPN Will Cover the WSOP
On Tuesday night at 8 EST, ESPN will begin to air the World Series of Poker Global Casino Championship. On September 11, the network’s Main Event coverage starts and the final table will be broadcast on October 30.
During the poker boom era, in the early 2000s, the network aired more events, but due to the changes in interest and demographics, ESPN’s coverage is now only limited to a couple World Series events
