Seems like records within the poker industry are being broken left and right as of late. Just days after PokerStars broke the record for the highest combined payouts in a single day in online poker history, rival poker company, 888poker, also hitting headlines with news of the highest paying tournament ever in 888poker history.

The final day of the $7,500,000 XL Inferno Championships ended spectacularly, featuring a $1,050 Main Event which saw it’s $1,500,000 guarantee easily surpassed, reaching a record-breaking high of $1,755,000, thanks to 436 rebuys from a field of 1,319 players.

This was 888poker’s 2nd new record within a week, after having broke the highest buy-in tournament with the $5,200 buy-in High Roller event last Tuesday. Both these records were certainly befitting of the $7.5 million guaranteed XL Inferno Championships, which is the largest series ever held in terms of total events, as well as the richest online series at 888poker, with a 50{c118e36310c7bc75bef8f724f80ee0a52cfaf44be22f7e80906142f4c81518da} increase over any previous 888poker’s Super XL series.

With Big Bait Comes Big Fishes

With so much money on the line, it was not surprising that it had caught the attention of some big names in the industry such as 2011 WSOP Main Event champion Pius “AMasta89” Heinz, November Nine Kenny “SpaceyFCB” Hallaert, and celebrity blogger Doug “DougPolkPKR” Polk, just to name a few.

Unfortunately, none of the players mentioned above were able to reach deep into the tournament, with Polk reaching the furthest, finishing 27th for $7,020 after losing a flip with AT against the 66 of “TigerVincent”.

Other notable names who managed to cash out were Rob Tinnion who grabbed the 87th place with $3,861, Steven Van finished 42nd with $5,440.50, and Simon Matsson who just missed the final table by claiming the 10th spot for $15,444.

“Alien_Army” Comes Out On Top

A heads-up deal was struck between “Alien_Army” from Austria and “stevachenko7” from the Czeck Republic, which guaranteed more than $225k for both of them. $30,000 were left on the table together with the title.

It was an exciting final round which saw “stevachenko7” with KK versus the Q4 of “Alien_Army”. The advantage was over at the Czech’s side, but once the 4 9 10 flop came out, things looked a little more interesting. Though “Alien_Army” was back in the game, “stevachenko7” was still the favourite at this time, that was until the 4 on the turn gave “Alien_Army” the trips. The only hope left for the Czech was to see a king on the river. In the end, things did not go his way, and “Alien_Army” walked away with the title and $291,007.27 in winnings.
