The host, who is not a regular player, decided to sit down and have a go. He topped the field.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"california-and-the-tournament-that-almost-was\">California and the Tournament that Almost Was<\/h2>\n<p>A poker tournament took place over the weekend in California. On Sunday, the event that coincided with Veterans Day, started in Gardena in one of the sunny states. Hosted by <strong>Rob Reid<\/strong>, the manager of two casinos, Lucky Lady and Hustler in the same city, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/2018\/11\/12\/gm-of-hustler-lady-luck-casinos-donates-veterans-day-poker-winnings-to-southern-california-firefighters\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Mr. Reid decided to give the event a go and see if he can\u2019t defeat other competitors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing the manager of a tournament sit down to play is not new, but Mr. Reid wasn\u2019t very famous for his play and nobody knew what to expect. In honesty, Mr. Reid also had little idea of what was going to happen next, <em>as he continued to amass a respectable chip lead throughout the separate levels<\/em>. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">GM of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LarryFlyntsLL?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Larryflyntsll<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HUSTLERCASINOLA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@hustlercasinola<\/a>, Rob Reid, won big this weekend at their annual <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/VeteransDay?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#VeteransDay<\/a> poker tournament &#8212; and donated it all to SoCal firefighters. It took him eight hours when he finally emerged victorious from the competition, defeating 100-odd players who have decided to come and try their luck.<\/p>\n<p>When the event came to the final three, Mr. Reid suggested to split the prizing money with the other two people standing, and all seemed happy with the move. Some owners, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/world\/california-wildfires-kim-and-kanye-hire-private-firefighters-to-save-46m-mansion-from-huge-blaze-a3988241.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Kim Kardashian and Kanye West even hired private hands<\/a> to help stave off the flames from their and neighbouring properties. <\/p>\n<p>Mr. Reid shared his appreciation of the people trying to contain the crisis in the South and added that it was a \u201ctragic thing,\u201d indeed. At one point in the tournament, he was on the cusp of elimination, but a luck of the draw produced a Jack, which saved him at just the right moment, propelling him back into the competition.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-event-itself\">The Event Itself<\/h2>\n<p>It was also a curious thing to watch Mr. Reid advance. As he began amassing his chips, people began supporting him. Given his modest career, it was a new experience for the manager, too, who said that <strong>he hadn\u2019t won a tournament since 2012<\/strong>, although his active time in the game was not nearly as much as that of an average player. <\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, he advanced steadily and at long last shaped up as a bit of an uncontested chip leader.
