One of the most iconic landmarks of Las Vegas, Bellagio Fountains, has been entertaining millions since it was first erected 18 years ago. Several times each and every night, 1000s of eyes are fixated at the technological beauty that is the Bellagio Fountains, one of the best free attractions in the city. Now, rumours has it that the dancing fountains have danced its last dance, due to making room for something that actually makes money.

The fountains costed $40 million to build and covers a sizeable area of 8.5 acres. Being that Las Vegas is no exception to the expression “Money is what makes the world go round”, it was only a matter of time before the executives at MGM Resorts would come up with something a little more lucrative to make use of that space.

An unnamed source said “It’s incredibly valuable real estate that earns the hotel nothing. It has had a long run as a tourist attraction, but now it’s time to make it a revenue earner.”

It is believed that the rumoured plans have been inspired by Vegas’ biggest mogul,Steve Wynn, who had been considering replacing a golf course at the Wynn Las Vegas with Wynn Paradise Park; the centrepiece of this new attraction would be an artificial lagoon surrounded by beaches with a central island playing host to nightly firework shows.

According to an executive, the proposed new waterpark at the Wynn Las Vegas could be a new substitute for the Fountains of Bellagio Then in its place, the lake would transform in a boutique shopping and restaurant promenade, a real revenue earner.

In light of these rumours, MGM Resorts released a statement saying, “We have no plans or intention to eliminate the iconic Bellagio Fountains, one of the most identifiable tourism landmarks in the world.”

Having said that, MGM did not deny that discussions about the future of the fountains had taken place.

A move such as this would certainly be a bold one, but since it’s Las Vegas we’re talking about, anything can be possible.

One of the most iconic landmarks of Las Vegas, Bellagio Fountains, has been entertaining millions since it was first erected 18 years ago.
