You don’t have to leave your house to have the experience of playing in a brick-and-mortar casino anymore. You can have that experience from the comfort of your house. You can play virtual reality (VR) online poker while sitting in your pyjamas.

With the appropriate software, players can use “Casino VR: Poker”, the first app that allows you to play multi-player, fully functional poker games in a virtual reality.

Virtual reality is starting to become reality. Within a few months the first VR headset, Oculus Rift, will be available for sale.

Currently “Casino VR: Poker” is in beta testing. The app is a play-money game that will make you feel you are in a real casino lobby, with plenty of poker tables to choose from. Each player will have an avatar and will be able to interact with other players via head tracking and spatial voice chat.

By using one of the headsets appropriate for virtual reality, you will be able to access all sorts of games create exclusively for virtual reality. With this brave new world medium, you can be transported wherever the software engineer’s imagination takes you.

Virtual Reality works best in games where social interaction is needed. This is definitely the case in poker games, which is seen as the most social casino game of all.

Virtual Reality can possible be the best way for the poker industry to rejuvenate and reinvent itself. The possibilities are attractive.

Using VR, the finals of online tournaments could have a TV-style final table environment. In addition, friends of the finalists could create avatars to sit in the audience and support them.

Social gamers as well as real-money gamers will probably be interested in playing VR poker games. In an interview with CalvinAyre.com Alexandre Tomic, the co-founder of Slots Million, talked about the real-money players and the social players. His company designed the first VR real money of the industry. During the interview he said:

“Today we have two different sectors in online gambling. We have the social players, who don’t play for money but who share a lot of their experiences, and we have the real-money players, who play but they don’t talk a lot about it,” [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][…]“We’re going to be able to design a virtual place where these people can meet and play together. So social players will be looking at the real-money players to see how they play.”

It might take a while before virtual reality online poker becomes really popular, as the costs to play it are relatively high. Players will have to pay around $300 for virtual reality goggles and players will also need a high-spec pc, so the costs might rise to around $1500.

During the same interview, Alexandre Tomic also addressed the issue that player pool might be small due to an initial slow adoption of VR online poker games.

“I don’t think we’ll see a rise in virtual reality in gaming next year,” he said. “I don’t think it’s even going to come in 2017. As Mark Zuckerberg said, he believes in it but it’s maybe five, ten years away. There’s really no rush to invest in it [at the moment] but you really do have to watch it like milk on fire.”

Even though virtual reality poker might need some time to bloom, it looks promising.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

You don’t have to leave your house to have the experience of playing in a brick-and-mortar casino anymore.
