In the coming weeks the state\u2019s Gaming Policy Committee will address the issue of Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) in the state of Nevada, as requested by Gov. Brian Sandoval.<\/p>\n
2012 was the last time the committee had a meeting. On that occasion online poker and iGaming were the topics discussed. Even though the 12-member committee doesn\u2019t have the power to enact laws, they are very influential and able to formulate potential recommendations. Those recommendations can potential pass to the state\u2019s legislature.<\/p>\n
In 2012 the committee\u2019s recommendation helped the legalization of online poker in Nevada, which passed in 2013.<\/p>\n
Last October DFS was formally banned in Nevada. This decision was made by Attorney General Adam Laxalt, who is known to be against any form of online gaming. Late in 2015, to show his dissatisfaction, Laxalt signed a letter in support of the Restoration of America\u2019s Wire Act (RAWA). He also ruled that DFS does not represent a game of skills and therefore is illegal in the state, according to Nevada\u2019s current online gaming rules.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s why the Gaming Policy Committee decided to focus on the DFS issues this time around. The committee had been inactive since the 1980s, before it was reformed in 2012. However this committee has become a more respected and necessary entity due to the many legal complications online gaming has been passing through the last years. The committee is composed of 12 representatives of different aspect of the gambling industry.<\/p>\n
According to Governor Sandoval, to hold the status of a progressive gambling state, it is important for the state of Nevada to consider the regulation of Daily Fantasy Sports.<\/p>\n
According to Sandoval, Nevada is known as the epicentre for gaming entertainment, innovation and regulation. He believes this industry is always developing and the policy leaders of Nevada should pay attention to the changes.<\/p>\n
During the committee meeting, other issue will also be addressed, such as other skill-based games and new gaming devices.<\/p>\n
At the time of writing, there is still no fixed date for the meeting. But one thing is sure, it will not be easy to form a consensus about which direction to take when all the representatives such as casino CEO Jim Murren and gaming expert David G.
