{"id":10109,"date":"2020-03-19T20:17:08","date_gmt":"2020-03-19T20:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onlinepokeramerica.com\/news\/?p=10109"},"modified":"2020-03-19T20:18:42","modified_gmt":"2020-03-19T20:18:42","slug":"live-poker-events-and-cash-games-extinct-due-to-covid-19-spread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onlinepokeramerica.com\/news\/live-poker-events-and-cash-games-extinct-due-to-covid-19-spread\/","title":{"rendered":"Live Poker Events And Cash Games Extinct Due To Covid-19 Spread"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>During these times, when state\nafter state order non-essential businesses to shut down to enforce the <strong>social distancing initiative<\/strong> and help\ncurb the spread of the <strong>coronavirus\n\/Covid-19\/<\/strong>, <strong>live poker<\/strong> looks\nalmost <strong>non-existent<\/strong>, as casinos and\npoker rooms shut doors for clients. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fewer casinos that remained\nopen will be <strong>forced <\/strong>to close doors\nby <strong>state governments<\/strong>, or even by <strong>public pressure<\/strong>, as the concern for health\n<strong>outweighs<\/strong> the lure of profits, and\nsoon there will be <strong>no place<\/strong> to play\npoker, to say nothing about <strong>volunteers<\/strong>\nfor a good cash game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"restrictions-end-date-unclear\">Restrictions End Date Unclear<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Though <strong>expectations<\/strong> prevail that closures will be until <strong>mid-April<\/strong>, the possibility of further <strong>extension <\/strong>is real, and gambling\noperators re-assess their plans considering <strong>end of August<\/strong> as the <strong>worst-case<\/strong>\nscenario <strong>end date<\/strong> of the\nrestrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It all started with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onlinepokeramerica.com\/news\/wpt-online-series-7m-guaranteed-announced-amid-live-poker-events-being-cancelled-worldwide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">myriad of poker tournaments being taken off the calendar<\/a> and continued into cash games as poker rooms and casinos began implementing the virus-spread mitigation measures, either recommended or ordered by state governors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And while closed casinos maybe\nthe only reason for cash games not taking place, poker festivals and events\ninvolve the participation of players from around the world, which under the\ncurrent restrictions on travel, is almost impossible to happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"wpt\">WPT<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>World Poker Tour<\/strong> initially cancelled or postponed <strong>WPTDS Amsterdam<\/strong>, Vietnam, European\nChampionship \/Deauville\/, <strong>WPTDS Maryland<\/strong>,\nJacksonville, Championship \/Thunder Valley\/, <strong>WPT Venetian<\/strong>, Barcelona, Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown and <strong>WPTDeepStacks<\/strong> Montreal, Playground\nPoker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On March 17, <strong>WPT President and CEO Adam Pliska<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldpokertour.com\/news\/a-statement-from-world-poker-tour-president-and-ceo-adam-pliska-regarding-wpts-televised-final-tables\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">released a statement that all televised final tables set to tape between March 31 and April 2<\/a> at <strong>HyperX Esports Arena<\/strong> Las Vegas had been postponed, due to the evolving circumstances around the spread of the covid-19 pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WPT\u2019s<\/strong> CEO referred to the first WPT Online Series set for May as an\nalternative for international players, and the promotions and events on ClubWPT\nfor players in America and beyond, with ClubWPT events being at the \u201chighest\nlevel in its 10-year history.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"wsop\">WSOP<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The World Series of Poker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsop.com\/news\/2020\/Mar\/12319\/STATEMENT-REGARDING-WSOP-CIRCUIT-EVENTS.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">postponed most of its season schedule<\/a>, including the <strong>WSOP Circuit International<\/strong> at King\u2019s Resort in Rozvadov, Casino Barriere le Croissette in Cannes, the <strong>WSOP Circuit US<\/strong> at Harrah\u2019s Atlantic City, Bicycle Casino Los Angeles, Bally\u2019s Las Vegas, Harrah\u2019s Cherokee, Hard Rock Tulsa, and the Horseshoe Council Bluffs series in Iowa.
