  • 2016 Poker Hall of Fame Finalists Are Chosen

Four days before the start of the WSOP Main Event final table, the Poker Hall of Fame (PHOF) has announced its 10 finalists of 2016. The list has no surprises, most players on the list are well-known in the industry and some have even made big contributions to the game.

On October 26 at the Binion’s Hoel and Casino in Las Vegas, it will become known which player made into the Hall of Fame. The most deserving candidates will be chosen by 45 people, being 25 current HOF members and 20 media member panel.

The criteria are…

  • 40-years of age or older
  • have dominated high stakes poker games for a long period of time against top competitions OR
  • made a major impact on the growth of the industry as a non-player.

The Finalists are…

  • Chrs Bjorin: two-times bracelet winner; regular at the WSOP for many years.
  • Humberto Brenes: over $6 million in lifetime tournament earnings; during the poker boom era Brenes was a fan favorite.
  • Todd Brunson: besides being Doyle’s son, he is a regular in the biggest bankroller games in Vegas.
  • Eli Elezra: seen by some as the greatest player of all times; during the poker boom era Elezra was often on TV shows.
  • Bruno Fitoussi: 8th on France’s tournament wins list; he has indisputable talents.
  • Chris Moneymaker: created a uniquely iconic brand for himself; motivated millions of amateur players to start playing.
  • Carlos Mortensen: his nickname is “El Matador”, Carlos won the WSOP Main Event in 2011.
  • Max Pescatori: won a WSOP bracelet five times; second all-time player of Italy.
  • Matt Savage: founded Tournament Directors Association, director of the World Poker Tour.
  • David “Devilfish” Ulliott: second-highest earning in England’s history, he left a lasting impact on the industry. “Devilfish” passed away in 2015.

Every player in these list is more than deserving of being chosen to be part of Poker Hall of Fame. One might even be surprised that some of the names on the list are not yet members of the Poker Hall of Fame.
